An Everlasting Covenant

“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” ”But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” Jeremiah 31:31-34

We see in the Old Testament many different covenants between God and man. There were a total of 13 different covenants in the Old Testament. A covenant was never made without God and man both acting towards that covenant. Remember this: a covenant with God can never be broken. 

I’m not talking about “you can lose your salvation” vs. “you cannot lose your salvation.” I am simply talking about a covenant between God and His people. In Genesis, God saw the sin that man had committed and brought a flood. He told Noah and his family to build an ark for the flood…take two of every kind…male and female…clean and unclean…and put them on the ark as well. Noah was obedient to God. The flood lasted for many, many years, but what blows my mind even more is that in Genesis 8:1, the Bible says, “And God remembered Noah…” Even looking at the sin in the world, God saw one man and had compassion and decided to make a covenant with His people again. 

Now, I am a little obsessed with taking pictures of the clouds and sky. I don’t know why, I just always have been very interested and blown away by God’s Creation. That’s just how I am. Well, here are some pictures I’ve taken….

God said in Genesis 9:14-15, “Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.” 

Okay, now I understand my obsession. God is simply wanting to remind me about His covenant with me. How beautiful is it to have that reminder every single day when I wake up? God loves His people. Even in the midst of the troubles, God looks at His people and has compassion. We have a compassionate God. There is a God who loves us. Yes! May we never forget the covenant that we have with God, for it is the everlasting covenant that drives me every day to do His work.
