Book Review – Jesus, My Father, The CIA, and Me

Book Review – Jesus, My Father, The CIA, and Me

Last summer, I had the privilege to meet Ian Morgan Cron. At the time he gave me a copy of Chasing Francis (here is my review of it ) and I absolutely loved it.

I read this book along with my wife, so it was really interesting to get her thoughts on it. She stated many times that this would make a great movie, and I agreed wholeheartedly. Ian does an excellent job of telling stories in a way that pulls you and makes you feel as though you were an active participant. Whether it was the time his father was beating down his door or when his family went diving, you are there. I am sure this was a painful/joyful story to write. I get the feeling that he wrote it more for himself than any audience. As I turned each page, I could see a healing happening in his life. The book starts out in a surreal world of celebrity and then takes you through the fallout of living among the wealthy, yet being dirt poor. It was a book filled with father/son conflict, addiction, hilarious stories, mischief, bullying, risk, disappointment, hope, and a changed life.

Probably what I love most about this memoir is the fact, that Ian did not come to Jesus and immediately everything was okay. It has taken and will take years to overcome some of the trials he went through, but he is on his way. You really have to read this book and find yourself in this story. I found myself again and realized I needed to stay on the healing track of finding hope and peace from the past with Jesus.
