Dangerous Promises | Money Advice, (Part 1)

1 My son, if you become surety for your friend,
If you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger,
2 You are snared by the words of your mouth;
You are taken by the words of your mouth.
3 So do this, my son, and deliver yourself;
For you have come into the hand of your friend:
Go and humble yourself;
Plead with your friend.
4 Give no sleep to your eyes,
Nor slumber to your eyelids.
5 Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,
And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Proverbs 6:1-5

My dear VPGs,

“Under the sun” there is no more important issue than money.  Unless you’re dealing with deeply spiritual, idealistic, or insane people, following the money trail will usually get you to the root issue in most matters.

Never doubt it: Mammon (Money) is a primary god of this age and rules the minds of men.

Therefore, to survive and thrive in this world you must be an astute manager of money.

If you do not manage the money God entrusts to you someone else will.  Money either compounds or flows.  It compounds and grows for the wise and flows away from the foolish.

Here’s the golden rule of the world: “He who has the gold rules.”   And you ignore that rule at your peril.

But…

You can be money-wise and still be a fool.

It is extremely important to remember that money has a moral element to it.  Words like greed, jealously, bribery, status, luxury, poverty, power are minions of Mammon and words like charity, gift-giving, bread-winning, tithing, honest pay for honest labor – these are a check on the rule of Mammon in a person’s life.

Bottom line, guard your heart so that money does not rule you, and discipline your mind so that you can rule money.

I’ll have more tomorrow,

Love, papa

Prayer: Father God, give my dear grandchildren all the money their character can handle and give them the wisdom to use it for your glory. Amen.
