His Light
I found this picture of an old logging road making its way through the vast expanse of darkened woods, but ahead are the rays of sunshine finding their way through the woods to lighten the road.
I thought to myself how desperately we need those rays of light right now in our uncertain and darkened world. Well….we have that light in Christ Jesus. Always there…never dimming…beckoning us to come to His light.
Of course, His light shines brightest when the television and computer screens are darkened, the phone is on the charger, and our knees are bent, or we’re sitting alone with a Bible in our lap, meditating upon Him and not our predicament. That’s just a fact.
A New Year is upon us, but the unchanging God of eternity has been here all along. A pity that we should let our circumstances blind us to His light that wants to brighten our road.
The words of the old gospel hymn “I Know Who Holds Tomorrow” by Ira Stanphill are worth repeating here:
I don’t know about tomorrow;
I just live from day to day.
I don’t borrow from its sunshine
For its skies may turn to grey.
I don’t worry o’re the future
For I know what Jesus said.
And today I’ll walk beside Him,
For He knows what lies ahead.
Many things about tomorrow,
I don’t seem to understand.
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand.
May we never, ever forget, Who holds tomorrow.
