Is a Master Plan Required to Succeed?

“Take Action: Goals are nothing without action. Don’t be afraid to get started. Just do it.”

―10 Secrets to Success, from Investor’s Business Daily

A book that has had a huge impact on me was the book: “Building the Bridge as You Walk On It.”  In many ways that describes my life.  I have not had some big noble master plan for my life.  Basically I saw myself doing three things:

I saw myself getting married and having a family.

I saw myself being a pastor.

And later, I saw myself being an Administrative Bishop.

That’s why one of my number one diagnostic questions is: What do you see?

If a man doesn’t see anything more for his life I can’t help.  And regrettably, there are far too many who don’t see anything more.  In many ways they are like the children of Israel who spent their lives wandering around in circles in the Wilderness with no real direction or purpose beside living to stay alive – waiting to die.

It is what a man sees that sets the direction of his life.  Either he fears it and flees or he embraces it and runs toward it. Whichever it is, at least he’s going in a direction.

Once you see yourself doing more, being more then I have another question for you:

What is the one thing I can do now to increase my chances of achieving what I see?

That’s what I mean when I say: Build the Bridge as You Walk on It.

You keep asking that question day after day after day.

And its been my experience that eventually you build bridge to what you see.

What happens is as you grow you see more.

For example, once I achieved my dream of becoming a pastor I had to figure out what that looked like.

Eventually as I grew I could see myself being more and doing more and the bridge just keep stretching into the future.

The lesson is this: Don’t feel like you have to sit down and come up with a list of responsible life goals that others have told you that you must do.

Instead, ask yourself, “What do I see for my life?”  If you and God are okay with it, then ask yourself, “What is the one thing I can do right now that will increase the odds of me achieving what I see?”

And two more things:

First: Don’t be afraid to dream big.  God put that drive in you and He promised that if you would delight yourself in Him He would give you the desires of your heart.

Second: And whatever you, don’t wait until you feel like you have enough information, resources, and help – you’ll never get anything done if you wait on a Betty Crocker Life Mix – just add water before you start.  If you see enough to get started then start – you’ll figure it along the way.

The ONE THING for today: Once you start, the next step usually introduces itself.
