” It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. I Cor. 1:21 That glorious opportunity; offered to only a few but what to say? In the COG we were told to look to the Holy Spirit and He will tell what to say. After many years I began to realize that we should look to our audience and their needs to get our message and then the Holy Spirit will show us how and when to say it.
Then I began to set and meditate on the people I shepherded, the teenagers, the twenty somethings, those in their thirties and forties and then those in the upper years. Then the Spirit showed me not to approach them with my ” high beams ” on but to deflect. To run the truth right by them, close enough that they could touch and grasp but not to have a head on collision.
It was then that I noticed that they invited others, ” to come and hear ” to pass around things I had written and to ask for more sermon tapes to give to friends. The foolishness of preaching; what a mystery that is!
