Etymology: From Latin parere to give birth to and Greek, madness, from paranous demented, from para- + nous mind; literally to give birth to madness
Definition: a tendency on the part of an individual or group toward excessive or irrational suspiciousness that in every situation concerning their children that the worst case scenario is the most likely. i.e. Small child bumps their head, parent assumes concussion. Telephone rings and parent of teenage drivers assumes it is the hospital. Parentnoia is normal. All parents suffer from it. Do not panic.
