Prayer Guide for the Presidential Election
“If My people who are called by My name, will humble themselves and
pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear
from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
(2 Chronicles 7:14)
✥ Pray that Christians will be motivated to pray faithfully for this
election and that the Lord would deliver us from the wrong leaders.
Therefore, let all the godly pray to You while there is still time, that they may not
drown in the floodwaters of judgment. For You are my hiding place; You protect me
from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. (Ps. 32:6-7)
✥ Pray that the Lord would give wise counsel and guidance to His
choice for president in this campaign. I will bless the Lord who guides me;
even at night my heart instructs me. I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be
shaken, for He is right beside me. (Psalm 16:7-8)
✥ Pray that our nation will listen to the truth and not be led astray.
The king is pleased with words from righteous lips; he loves those who speak
honestly. (Proverbs 16:13)
✥ Pray that the Lord would arm the man of His choice with strength;
that He would guide and sustain him and give him victory. God arms
me with strength, and He makes my way perfect. . He trains my hands for battle; He
strengthens my arm. . . You have given me Your shield of victory. Your right hand
supports me . . . (Psalm 18:32-36)
✥ Pray that God’s man could, through faith, persevere and
maintain his courage throughout this election. By faith these people
overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them.
They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the
edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in
battle and put whole armies to flight. (Heb. 11:32-34)
✥ Pray that those who trust in the Lord will not be shaken. Those
who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will
endure forever. Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His
people, both now and forever. The wicked will not rule the land of the godly, for then
the godly might be tempted to do wrong. O Lord, do good to those who are good,
whose hearts are in tune with You. But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O
Lord. Take them away with those who do evil. May Israel have peace! (Psalm 125)
✥ Pray that the Lord would defeat those who have no regard for
Him in this election. O God, insolent people rise up against me . . .You mean
nothing to them. But You, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get
angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. Look down and have mercy on
me . . . Then those who hate me will be put to shame, for You, O Lord, help and
comfort me. (Psalm 86:14-17)
Pray that the Lord would empower and enable His man in any
area of weakness. Each time He said, “My grace is all you need. My power works
best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the
power of Christ can work through me. (2 Cor. 12:9)
✥ Pray that the Lord would put His hands on the man of His choice
for president (and his team) and guide them in this election. Elisha told
him, “Put your hand on the bow,” and Elisha laid his own hands on the king’s hands.
(II Kings 13:16)
✥ Pray that God’s man will listen with discernment, add to his
knowledge, and receive wise counsel in this campaign. Let the wise
listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive
guidance . . . (Proverbs 1:5-6)
✥ Pray that the man of God’s choice would be given wisdom and
ability from the Lord to overcome any obstacle or difficulty. I have told
you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials
and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
✥ Pray for repentance for yourself and for our nation. God overlooked
people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now He commands
everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to Him. (Acts 17:30)
✥ Pray that God’s man and our nation will be discerning and do
what is right. “You know how to interpret the weather signs of the earth and sky,
but you don’t know how to interpret the present times. Why can’t you decide for
yourselves what is right?” (Luke 12:54-57)
✥ Pray that the Lord’s choice for president will have special strength
and unusual ability from God. “For I can do everything through Christ, Who
gives me strength.” (Phil. 4:13)
✥ Pray that the Lord would do something that would utterly amaze
us and give His servant victory. The Lord replied, “Look around at the nations;
look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you
wouldn’t believe . . .” I have heard all about You, Lord. I am filled with awe by Your
amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as You did in years gone
by. And in Your anger, remember Your mercy. (Habakkuk 1:5; 3:2)
