STATE OF EMERGENCY: Hurricane Helene Is Becoming A Monster That’s 345 Miles Wide With A 20-Foot High ‘Unsurvivable’ Storm Surge In Some Places
Hurricane Helene massive 20-foot storm surge ‘unsurvivable,’ National Weather Service said today as time to prepare is now over for many west coasters in Florida
As longtime Floridians, we have weathered many tropical storms, cyclones, tornados and hurricanes, and it is always a humbling and awesome experience when you feel the power of God’s ‘weather report’ bearing down on you. Hurricane Helene is the new kid on the block, and from all quarters we are hearing the same thing, that she’s a monster.
“Fire, and hail; snow, and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word:” Psalm 148:8 (KJB)
Hurricane Helene has now reached sustained winds of up to 105 mph and is moving in a NNE direction at 14 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. Helene is right now a Category 2 storm, and she may make landfall as a Category 4. Helene has already dumped an insane amount of water on Mexico, and she is fixing to do the same here in Florida. The NHC warned inundation from powerful Hurricane Helene could reach as high as 20 feet along Florida’s Big Bend coast, bringing with it catastrophic and deadly conditions. The storm, expected to make landfall this evening, is forecast to bring ‘life-threatening’ winds to Northern Florida and Southern Georgia. Forecasts also indicate a potential for flash-flooding across Appalachia, northern Florida, and the southeastern United States. Pray for everyone in the path of this storm, and evac if you are able to do so.
Hurricane Helene is a monster says National Weather Service
FROM THE NY POST: The time to prepare for the onslaught of Hurricane Helene is essentially over as the monster storm continues to gain strength and sets its sights on Florida’s Big Bend region, where it will unleash a potentially “unsurvivable” 20-foot storm surge, catastrophic hurricane-force winds and flooding rain.
Nearly the entire state of Florida is under some sort of tropical weather alert, with Tropical Storm Warnings extending hundreds of miles inland into Georgia and the Carolinas, including Atlanta.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says that because of Hurricane Helene’s massive size, there is a significant risk of a life-threatening storm surge along the entire west coast of the Florida Peninsula, as well as Florida’s Big Bend region.
“A catastrophic and deadly storm surge is likely along portions of the Florida Big Bend coast, where inundation could reach as high as 20 feet above ground level, along with destructive waves,” the NHC warned.
The highest inundation, with as much as 20 feet of storm surge flooding, is expected from Carrabelle to the Suwannee River in Florida, with other locations like Apalachicola and Chassahowitzka forecast to see 10-15 feet of storm surge. Tampa Bay is expected to see a storm surge of 5-8 feet.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee issued a dire warning about the potentially deadly storm surge on Thursday morning.
“There is increasing confidence of catastrophic and potentially unsurvivable storm surge for Apalachee Bay,” the NWS said. “Storm surge may begin to arrive as early as (Thursday) afternoon ahead of the strongest winds, building through landfall.”
Millions of Florida residents from the Panhandle to the Keys have spent the last several days preparing for potential impacts, but as Helene gains strength and moves closer to the Sunshine State, the time to prepare is essentially over.
Windows are boarded up and residents were busy filling sandbags and stocking up on essential supplies this week ahead of mandatory evacuation orders that were issued for numerous counties ahead of the hurricane’s arrival. Earlier this week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency for 61 of the state’s 67 counties to help agencies prepare for the storm. READ MORE

Hurricane Helene is rapidly intensifying into a dangerous Category 4 hurricane before landfall in Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center. Meteorologists say the storm’s massive size and intensity will lead to devastating impacts for Florida and Georgia.
HURRICANE HELENE UPDATE: Here’s the latest as the storm moves toward Florida
Hurricane Helene is expected to reach Category 4 strength as it continues to track toward Florida’s Gulf coast, according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center. The National Hurricane Center has issued hurricane and storm surge warnings for parts of Florida’s Gulf Coast, including the Tampa Bay area, ahead of potential impacts from the storm. It’s expected to further strengthen into a major hurricane, category 3 or higher, sometime Thursday ahead of landfall. As of the latest advisory, Tropical Storm Helene is 425 miles southwest of Tampa, Florida. It’s moving at 9 mph with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph. The NHC says that Hurricane Helene is “expected to bring catastrophic winds and storm surges to the northeastern Gulf Coast.” It added that “preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion.”
