For many months there have been rumors swirling from inside Israel that the leadership among the Palestinians are planning to go to the United Nations in September and demand that they recognize a Palestinian state within the borders of modern Israel. Their "inspiration" for this idea comes from the same concept that assisted in re-forming the modern nation of Israel in 1948. Following the holocaust, the United Nations voted to partition parts of Palestine, giving the Jewish people a homeland, as tens of thousands of holocaust survivors had lost everything they had and were uninterested in returning to the European nations where they were persecuted and many family members were slain by the Nazis.
