The First Thing You Should Do

“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.”

― Leo Tolstoy

Don’t think me a cynic, but the truth is most people don’t change.

Think about it…

Circle back around and check in on that old school bully and odds are you’ll discover they’re still bullying their way through life.

Negative people tend to stay that way.  Optimists too.

Complainers complain till kingdom come., no matter what you do.

No matter how much or how little they own, generous people are usually generous to a fault and stingy people would begrudge giving a penny to their aged mother.

Overweight people usually stay overweight (diets are just the pause before going to the next level) and skinny people…let’s not talk about them, it will just make the rest of us angry.

Bad drivers stay bad drivers and good drivers…thank God for them!

Neat people are neat everywhere and give a cluttered person five minutes an they will somehow create clutter in a sterilized vacuum.

And on it goes…for the most part, people simply don’t change.  They talk about change, they cry, repent, promise and then, like a big rubber ball that’s been tossed against the wall, they bounce around a bit—“changing”—and eventually settle back down to just about how they always were.

And herein lies a great opportunity for you.

For through it is rare…disappointedly so…people can really change.

You be that person.

Don’t wait on others to change so that your life can get better.  You make it better.  Change!  Step up, go for it.  Don’t wait on others.  You be the change you’re hoping for.

Like the first Hatfield (or was it a McCoy?) who decided to not strike back and keep the feud going – you be the first.  Change, for heaven’s sake, and you will change the world.

The ONE THING for today: The number one thing you can do to improve your situation right now is change.  It’s your move…change yourself for the better and you will change everything around you.
