The Tough Choices

“To the thirty-something on Reddit with a “fleeting interest in everything” and “no career direction,” here’s what science has to say: passion for your work is a little bit of discovery, followed by a lot of development, and then a lifetime of deepening.”

_Angela Duckworth, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance

My dear Grands!

The wise path is the toughest path.

Angela Duckworth summed it up well: “Passion for your work is a little bit of discovery, followed by a lot of development, and then a lifetime of deepening.”

I like that.

But I like what Solomon had to say even more:

11 My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline,
and don’t be upset when he corrects you.
12 For the Lord corrects those he loves,
just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.

Proverbs 3:11-12 (NLT)

Remember this: What you want and what you need are seldom the same. God knows this and gently (and sometimes not so gently) guides you toward the paths of righteousness (Ps. 23:3).

It’s called conscience and consequences!

Trust God’s hand on your back nudging you towards the wise path. Its not always the most fun path but it is the path of life.

How will you know you’re on the right path?

Here’s some signs:

  • It usually requires making the tougher of two choices
  • It almost always goes against what is popular at the moment
  • It requires trusting God enough to obey what He lays out in His Bible
  • The consequences are always life giving for you and those around you

The ONE THING for today: In the end, every path comes with a price. And every time, at the end of the path, the price the fool pays is always higher.

And now you know why I only eat ice cream once a week! 😉

Make the tough choices kiddos!

In the end, you’ll never regret it.

Love, Papa
