What Leaders Do: The Importance of Initiating Innovation

What Leaders Do: The Importance of Initiating Innovation

“The moment someone loses hope that what they’re doing
will make a difference despair gains a foothold and begins to bleed off
courage, innovation, and joy.”

It is easy to become so enamored with being creative that it becomes about our creativity and not about the mission.

The dangers of creativity:

  1. It becomes about the presentation instead of the mission.
  2. There is always someone more creative.
  3. The Law of Diminishing Return | eventually all the creativity in the world will not add enough value to justify the effort and expense.

The benefits of innovation:

  1. It keeps the mission central.
  2. It requires nothing more than what you’ve got.
  3. It changes the standard from being the best to giving your best which opens the door for anyone to join the team.

The ONE THING for today: Creativity askes, “How can I be original and novel?” Innovation askes, “How can I achieve the mission with what I’ve got?”
