Which are a Shadow of What is to Come –…
Which are a Shadow of What is to Come – but the Body of the Messiah
These verses are probably some of the most taken ‘out of context’ & figures it gives us the ‘right or liberty to live in sin’. But personally, because we are made in the ‘image’ of the Creator, we are very loving and trusting towards the preacher and church which leaves us open to be deceived easily. Plus we think they know what they are speaking about because he is a preacher and belongs to a church. I think that is how the majority of people are brought up to be deceived so easily… probably can say it’s a church tradition, too.
Here are the verses: Col 2: 16 Let no one therefore judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a festival or a new moon or Sabbaths – 17 which are a shadow of what is to come – but the Body of the Messiah. If we look at it with simple plainness, it says ‘not to judge us for doing those things.’ But as we have seen, most have not been taught to see the simple plainness of it! But what is pointed out the most and taken out of context? ‘which are a shadow to come!’ Which brings people to take ‘man’s reasoning’ as Truth, claiming those things are ‘done away with by the body of the Messiah!’ Which is a false doctrine.
If we read: 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having blotted out that which was written by hand against us – by the dogmas – which stood against us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the stake. 15 Having stripped the principalities and the authorities, He made a public display of them, having prevailed over them in it. v13-15 were the ‘dogma’ and hand writing against us that were done away with. Not anything in v16,17! Why? v16,17 says don’t let (a non-believer/or partial believer) judge you for keeping these things! Again we can ask why or how? *** in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a festival or a new moon or Sabbaths*** these are ***shadow of what {is to come}*** in the future! But the Body or the Substance of these things is the Messiah! You might ask, “HOW”? If we look into the future by the Scriptures, we find: 23 “And it shall be that from New moon to New moon, and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before Me(the Substance/Body of the Messiah!”) Isaiah 66:23 and Col 2:16,17 say the same thing. Col 2:16,17 is speaking of the future and Isaiah 66:23 says ‘That is the future spoken of, the joy to look forward to it!’
