You Win; I Win

And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith, Philippians 1:25

I learned one of the most important lessons of my life in 1981.  I was living in Saluda, SC at the time pastoring a small church that came with a small salary.  That was the year my son was born and I desperately needed to supplement my income.  So I came up with the bright idea to sell soap! [i]

In an effort to motivate me, the company gave me a book by Zig Ziglar titled, “See You at the Top!”  It changed my life forever.  The thesis of the book was: “If you help enough people get what they want in life, you will get what you want in life.”

Mr. Ziglar must have gotten that idea from the Apostle Paul, for that is exactly what Paul was saying in today’s verse.  His whole point for wanting to live and hang around was so that others could progress and have joy in their faith.

I don’t know why that book should have had such a profound impact on me. Looks like I would have had already figured it out. But I had not, and that is true for so many others.

But thankfully, I embraced the principle and it became one of the core values of my life and it has served me well. And it will serve you well too

The ONE THING for today: It’s a good life, this helping others win. For when you help others progress and win in life, the funny thing about it is that when they end up in the winner’s circle so do you.

[i] Actually I was trying to sell a lot of products through a muti-level marketing company called Amway.
