COG’s First Female Chaplain Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel

Chaplain Gloria Bun is highly regarded for her dedication to the Air Force and experience serving across the globe. Her invaluable work has earned her promotion from Major to Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force. Not only is promotion to this rank an incredible honor, but Gloria has the additional honor of becoming the first woman serving as a Church of God Chaplain to achieve this rank. Throughout the last 18 years Gloria has served in the Air Force, her service has spanned from the Clinical Pastoral Education Liaison and Basic Military Training Branch in San Antonio, to working as a Wing Chaplain in the Yokota Air Base in Tokyo, Japan. She served for 7.5 years on Active Duty at Holloman AFB, NM, Yokota AB, Japan, and Lackland AFB, TX, including a tour in Balad, Iraq where Gloria provided care and spiritual support to the critically wounded in the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Iraq. Since 2010, she has worked as a Reserve Chaplain and served as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) at Yokota AB, Japan. Recently, she assisted with the ramp ceremony for the seven US Sailors who were killed on the USS FITZGERALD off the Japanese coast as they were brought home to the US.

She considers herself privileged to perform these services and encourages others who are considering Military Chaplaincy to follow God’s lead. Currently, she has the “fantastic opportunity” of mentoring young people who are called to serve through the Air Force Reserve Command’s Chaplain Candidate Program. Chaplain Bun’s success is inspirational to all military Church of God Chaplains, and she is a pioneer in a field that few women have entered. Dr. Richard Pace hopes that her achievements will inspire more female ministers to consider Military Chaplaincy. He stated, “All three Chiefs of Chaplains of the Army, Navy, and Air Force emphasize how badly they need women chaplains serving in the military.” We celebrate with Chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel, Gloria Bun as she follows God’s direction and honors Him through her incredible service to our Nation and people across the globe!
