A New Year

The banner waves in the breeze
Bringing hope of new days,
New victories,
New life,
To this once proud team.

The songs begin to play,
In the background filled
With anxious people
Looking less like fans
And more like lovers
Sick from infidelity and frozen affection.

Amid the claps
And shouts of “it’s our year”
Is the feeling that it might never be,
And yet, we are faithful still.

No matter the disappointment
You simply cannot divorce your favorite team.
