Consistency In A Storm

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, IMMOVABLE, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58

Have you ever been through a storm before? Spiritual? Physical? Emotional? What caused that storm? Were you about to get to your next breakthrough? Or was God testing you? Either way, the storms sent in our lives are to make us stronger…durable…IMMOVABLE! 

I have come to find out that storms are not easy to go through. Yes, I am 23 years old, and some might say “you don’t even know what a storm is yet”, but what I do know is that there are different storms for different people at different times. Don’t think you’re better than someone else because your storm was “worse” than theirs in your mind.

Consider Job, a man who walked with God. Yes, he was a sinner like all of us, but Scripture says he was a man with “perfect integrity” (Job 1:1). Job had everything taken away from him…his house…his food…his livestock…his family…everything, yet, “throughout all this, Job did not sin or blame God for anything” (Job 1:22).

Have you considered yourself as Job? I sure haven’t, but what I do know is that storms come and go, but God is always consistent. Storms are sent to show you how to seek God!

Just this past week, two men who were Pastors…one man was a Pentecostal preacher and the other was a mega-church pastor…announced their turning to atheism. An atheist group put on a huge banquet here in Tuscaloosa for them. I’m talking HUGE. Printed things in the newspaper, invited other atheist, ate, drank, celebrated this new path they have chosen. When asking my Pastor, Jeremy Griffith – Pastor of Alberta Church of God, what he thought, his response was, “I’ve seen God move too many times in my life to turn from Him.” My gosh, if that doesn’t give you chills, I don’t know what will.

It is sad that these two men, once pastors, gave up their spiritual lives because it might have been “too hard” for them or some storm in their life came and took them right off of their feet. Can I please tell you today that if you don’t have your foundation in the Rock, the true Rock, you will fall just like these two men. Storms come and go, but I know a God who is everlasting in my life. I may not have enough money to go out and eat all the time, but I am thankful for a job that helps me pay my bills. I may not have the best running car, but I am thankful for that I have life, and life in Him who created me! I may not have the most up to date earthly possession that you can think of, but I do have eternal life in the One who spoke and things came into existence! I may have a storm every single day of my life to where the enemy whispers in my ear “just give up. It’s over. You’re going to die sooner or later.” but I have a God who is for me and my family. I have a God who conquered death and took every pain and misery for me. Why God? Why me? Who is man that you are mindful of him?

I am writing this today to encourage you in the faith telling you to not give up. Keep going for your help is on the way! Pray yourself through each struggle. Read Scripture and allow God to speak into your life and your situations. Seek God in your darkest moments and I promise you that the mountain you are facing today will soon become a plateau.

Keep your faith and trust in the One who makes all things new!
