Defining Moments

We all have defining moments. It is in these moments that we find our true characters. We become heroes or cowards; truth tellers or liars; we go forward or we go backward. __Robert Kiyosaki

Count on it, there will be defining moments in life.

A birth (pretty defining!)

A graduation, a marriage, a child, a career change, all these are defining moments.

Sometimes defining moments come because of hard work and wise choices and others because of the lack of hard work and poor choices.

Then there are those defining moments that shape our lives due to no action on our part – a disgruntled employee with a gun, an ambitious national leader who decides its a great idea to take over another country, at least five Supreme Court Justices who all agree on behalf of 350 million citizens (give or take a few) on a particular course of action.

These are just a few examples of defining moments over the last few months that helped define people’s lives forever and few, if any of us, had a choice in the matter.

But what about you?

No doubt the last twelve months have included some defining moments for you. They may be minor matters or they may have been cataclysmic or they may rank somewhere in between those two extremes.

But whatever the moment, remember it is still just a moment. Yes, a defining moment, but not the sum of the definition of who you are and what you will be.

You have a choice as to what you will do now.

You can go forward, learn, grow, hope, dream, try again or even try something new.

Or…

You can put a period at the end of your defining moment and say, “That’s it. I will never be anything more.”

The ONE THING for today: Defining moments – deserved or undeserved – help define and shape us, but they do not have to be the end of the story. Today is a great day to turn the page and start writing a new chapter for your life.
