Dr. Jacob Nahuway-We Remember

DR. JACOB NAHUWAY

February 25, 1947 — February 2, 2021

Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel?

Following a season of illness, the former general overseer (10 years) of Gereja Bethel Indonesia, died peacefully at age 74 in Jakarta, Indonesia, on February 2, 2021. In 1967, Gereja Bethel Indonesia and the Church of God were amalgamated, creating a close bond of service and fellowship between the Pentecostal groups. Dr. Nahuway also served as a member of the Church of God International Executive Council during his tenure as the leader of Gereja Bethel Indonesia.

World Missions Director David M. Griffis and Assistant Director M. Thomas Propes extend their deepest sympathy to the family and to the Indonesian constituency of the Church of God.

In 1979, Dr. Jacob and his wife, Rina, became pastors of the Gereja Bethel Indonesia “MAWAR SHARON (Rose of Sharon) congregation in Jakarta. It is there that he built a notable sanctuary that seats 10,000 people.

During his ministry, Dr. Jacob authored 24 books. He served as a global member of the Board of Church Growth International based in Seoul, served as Chairman (2013-2018) of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Indonesia, and General Secretary of the Interdenominational Board of Asian Missions.

Dr. Jacob is survived by his wife, Rina, three adult children and their spouses, and several grandchildren. His oldest son, Reverend Yohanes Nahuway, was officially installed as the new lead pastor of Gereja Bethel Indonesia “Rose of Sharon” congregation.

Funeral services for Dr. Nahuway were held on Tuesday evening, February 2, 2021, and Wednesday Feb. 3. Shortly after his body was laid to rest just outside of Jakarta.
