Good Friday, April 7, 2023 | 12 Days

A guilty conscience is a great blessing, but only if it drives us to come home.

__Stott, John. The Cross of Christ

Here’s an irony for you…

One of the best places to find sinners is in a church.

They’re like the overweight person who looks in a mirror and steps on the scales but comforts themselves by comparing themselves with someone far heavier than themself.

They’re like the driver who justifies breaking the speed limit because everyone does it and because there are so many others who are going far faster than they are.

It’s called self-righteousness and it works just fine as long as you don’t look to the Cross.

The ONE THING for today: The one thing we must not do is make Good Friday about other people’s sins. Good Friday is personal, it’s about facing up to the dark realities of our own heart, and laying aside our justifications and comparisons and coming home to mercy and a new life.
