Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. __Jesus Christ (Matthew 26:27-28)

Is it possible to exaggerate the staggering nature of this claim? Here is Jesus’ view of his death. It is the divinely appointed sacrifice by which the new covenant with its promise of forgiveness will be ratified. He is going to die in order to bring his people into a new covenant relationship with God.

I am reminded of the words of C. S. Lewis about Jesus…

A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell.

The ONE THING for today: The Cross makes it hard to ignore Jesus Christ. The longer one looks the more they realize that a choice about Jesus is required. Whichever choice they make it will be seismically life-altering.
