And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him.

__Mark 15:20

It’s always intrigued me that both Mark and Matthew made a point to include in their account of the crucifixion of Jesus the fact that Jesus marched to Calvary wearing his own clothes.

Not one of those orange jump suites that inmates wear.

Not priestly vestments or a king’s robe,

Not a suit & tie, or holey jeans.

Just his own clothes.

Travel worn, blood stained from his beaten back, still emanating the smell of the costly fragrant oil poured on Him by the unnamed woman with the alabaster jar.

His own clothes.

The ONE THING for today: Jesus will not allow us to dress Him up in our traditions, causes, and philosophies. If the Cross is to have any positive affect in our lives we must accept it (and Jesus) on his own terms.
