Hypothetical situation: If you were in college and had one…

Hypothetical situation:

If you were in college and had one class left. You only get one chance at passing this class and if you don’t pass this class you fail college completely. Would you read your text book or would you rely on your classmates? Would you rely on just your teacher?

Edit (I’m thinking I didn’t make the point clear. ) This is an argument that it’s powerful against people that claim to be “Christian” yet don’t read their Bible and have no clue what is says. They have a false sense of salvation.

    Too funny, I’m actually in that exact situation, and in a seminary. And of course will read the textbooks (and of course read the Bible, which I imagine is what you’re getting at!)

    I’d rely on my teacher and my own written notes from the teacher’s lessons; the text book would be a guide.

    So the purpose of this question is aimed more at people claiming to be Christian yet they don’t read their Bible.

    I never trusted my teachers in college. Their aim was to fail as many students as they can. So i rely mostly on textbooks than what they say. Lol

    I went to a great Bible college where most of the time the teacher wrote the textbook. It’s half text- half teacher. Classmates have nothing to do with it.

    They call it traditions, oral tradition… Before the Bible came…. They were directly hearing the Word and continue to practice it even today

    This is my nightmare! Seriously I wake up at least once a year with this vivid dream. The university had a policy where you could only take a class 3 times and had to pass it the third time. The class I failed twice was in my 4th year and it was a requirement to graduate with my business degree. I dream that I never studied the whole semester for this course and I’m going in blank to the final exam. I wake up in a sweat with my heart beating and it’s so real it takes me a bit to realize I have already graduated.. ?

    I do read my bible and am quite proficient in it..

    There’s some truth to this, but here’s a parallel. Many people are Americans, yet have never read the Bill of rights of Constitution and are nowhere near fluent in it. SOME of these same Americans are actually elected officials. Another example, jurors are not qualified in law nor have any formal training in it, yet their more than qualified to be summoned and even sit on jury duty. While some may consider my 2d example weak (at best), there’s still a parallel. Since many Americans haven’t read or even agree with the founding documents, are they less American?

    I don’t think there’s enough information in the OP to draw a conclusion. How does the OP KNOW that these people don’t read their bible? Are these people in observance simply new converts who don’t know enough yet? Again, not enough information, but sounds like more than enough judgement to go around.

    So let’s welcome and encourage those around us, as well as ourselves. Always being a good example and a light to the those in the darkness. Having read ourselves, let us extol, having believed ourselves then let us report our testimony, having acted upon the Word…then let us go forth and spread it. Let US be about Our Father’s Kingdom!!!

    Jesus did not say not to judge, he said do not judge without evidence or falsely. Some Christians come from Churches who don not place a lot on emphases on knowing the Bible and studying the bible. Apart of our role is to be friend them, and learn together things to draw of closer to God in Christ, closer to one another, understanding the faith to enable us to share the gospel with others.

    God gave us the Bible, and preachers. We should use both. But have discernment of the preachers you listen to.

    It would be concerning if those 3 are as far as the believer’s study went imo. Granted, everyone grows at different rates in terms of Bible study etc.

    There are many other resources for understanding the Bible outside of reading. But if reading and/or having perfect knowledge of the Bible is a requirement then we are all doomed.
