On October 12, 1924, Robert M. Evans (1847-1924) went to be with the Lord. Evans and his wife Ida, seen here far left and second from right, were early Church of God missionaries to the Bahamas. The couple joined the Church of God in May 1909 when A.J. Tomlinson preached at the Pleasant Grove camp meeting in Durant, FL. Robert had been a retired Methodist minister and Ida was the secretary and treasurer of the camp ground. Robert and Ida, along with Carl M. Padgett, landed in Nassau on January 4, 1910. There they joined Edmond and Rebecca Barr, who had arrived the previous November. General Overseer Tomlinson appointed Evans as the first overseer of the Bahamas in 1911.
