Reading for a Change

Reading for a Change

“Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.”
― Lemony Snicket, Horseradish: Bitter Truths You Can’t Avoid

In this week’s briefing I share how the one thing that virtually all those who excel in their given field have in common is that they are avid readers.

My hope is that you will join them.

Outside of your personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reading faithfully and intentionally is probably the most important thing you can do to improve and advance in your ability to minister and serve with excellence.

To ensure that you read intentionally – deeply and broadly – I suggest you have a systematic process you go by in choosing the books you read. Here’s mine, it may serve as a guide to help you develop your reading lists.

  1. Apologetics:
  2. Biographies/History:
  3. Books that must be re-read:
  4. Church Management/Leadership:
  5. Current Interest:
  6. Devotional Reading:
  7. Favorite authors:
  8. Fiction:
  9. Finance:
  10. Marriage:
  11. Personal Growth/Health:
  12. Philosophy-sociology:
  13. Preaching:
  14. Sermons:
  15. Theology:

Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come—and the books, especially the parchments.
