Something I don’t hear much about anymore is sanctification. Many have went to the progressive view on sanctification, however I think that the CoG still holds to the doctrine of entire sanctification. I personally believe that sanctification is a second work of grace. I also believe that you must be sanctified before you’re filled with the Holy Ghost. Is this view of sanctification a dying view in the modern day CoG? Explain.

You have to first enter sanctification in the Lord before you can progress in it.When God spoke to the
Israelites in the wilderness they were told to sanctify themselves for tomorrow the Lord would speak to them .some of the work is ours and the greatest part ,the life changing work is His.We have to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling before the Lord.Thats with honor respect and sacred worship.I still like a quote by R W Shaumbach,” Salvation is God getting you out of the mess, Sanctification is God getting the mess out of you.” Bless you my friend.

Shaumbach is more in line with AOG than COG on the subject of sanctification.

I agree with you on that .Without God man would have no desire to be saved. we need eficatious grace to accept the call to salvation.

Consider something I thought for the past few years in regard to instantaneous and progressive sanctification: It could be both. Instantaneous? Yes. The experience of Salvation comes when a person repents of past sins and accepts Christ as his savior. There is an emotion that comes with that serious “experience” with God After salvation, one begins to look at his everyday walk with the Lord and at some point comes to an altar and tells God he wants to be his servant for the rest of his life even if the world ridicules him. Eventhough the word sanctify was not used in the pray, the attitude and determination was there. This brings another emotional “experience” to that believer. Therefore he can look back on that day and say that ON THAT DAY “he was sanctified”. One must have an attitude of sanctification for the following years, which means that, with determination, he will continue to be sanctified until he reaches the end, thus a continusous state of being sanctified.. Why did the Christians in the 50’s get so excited about Sanctification? Because God honors a sincere, surrendered soul. A love relationship with Jesus is emotional and BRINGS AN EXPERIENCE. Wrapping up…………There is a FIRST DAY OF SACTIFICATION (instantaneous) and there is a SANCTIFIED LIFE TO LIVE THEREAFTER. Those in the fifties described it correctly after all………….and they also passionately lived it until the end.
