To Conform or Transform
Paul uses the words conform and transformed in Romans 12:2, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
People conform to the world because they desire to be accepted but God accepts us as we are and in the security of that truth we can see His power transform us. To conform one uses their willpower to try and change themselves, to be transformed one trusts in God’s spirit to do the work. The only reason the person who is “transformed” can prove that God’s will is good, acceptable and perfect is because they have been transformed entirely by the fact that it is God’s goodness that brought them to the truth that God accepts them as they are and God’s perfect love is what changes and transforms their heart. They then are able totestify that the will of God is good, acceptable and perfect because they experienced all the three to be transformed.
The world will try and get you to conform to their image to be loved by them. The good news is God loves you as you are and it is His goodness and the fact you are accepted by Him that transforms you by His power not your own.
