Whether or not Christian or secular, the fact is that…
Whether or not Christian or secular, the fact is that faith is an essential segment of one’s existence, which stems from well beyond human consciousness and comprehension while touching the very existence of human endeavor. As Yamauchi in citing Tacitus’ assesses the fact that these early Christians “held so strongly to their beliefs that they were willing to die rather than recant.” It would seem the norm given how the pronouncements, miracles, and creeds were readily shared by word of mouth, thus strengthening individual and communal resolve. Where Pliny implied consulting Trajan, indicating that he “had no doubt that, whatever the nature of their creed, stubbornness, and inflexible obstinacy,” true Christians willingly gave their lives for voluntarily refusing to surrender their ethical standards and beliefs. Faith can and have proven to be an exhilarating or exciting as the early Christians proved by adhering to their firsthand knowledge of the Lord’s declaration. Many present-day Christians merely read the words, however, unlike the early Christians who practiced to the fullest extent biblical verses such as, ”Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the 10 ancients were commended for.” (Hebrews 11:1,2 NIV) There is a failure to rely upon or have an unhesitating assurance of the truth of God’s testament.
