That’s a very good question thanks for asking. I think the answer for this is actually a lot more simple than some may suggest.
I’ll explain it like this. If I wrote the line “I love mint”, the people who read that could interpret it differently. Some would say that it clearly means that I really like mint, and have chosen to use the word love to show how much I like it. Some might say that I am romantically interested in mint. Some may even say that mint is the name or nickname of my wife or girlfriend. However, if you want to find out what I meant by “I love mint”, then the best way to get the answer to that question is by asking me as I was the one who said it.
It’s pretty similar with the Bible. People come to the Bible and can interpret things completely differently. This can be for a variety of reasons, it could be because of biases, it could be because of their understanding of words and phrases, trying to pick those reasons specifically can be like looking for a needle in a haystack to be honest.
The point I’m trying to make is that all too often we try to impose our interpretations onto the Bible rather than approaching it’s author. God is the author of His word, therefore He is the one has the best and correct interpretation of it.

That’s why you don’t just go to church and believe what the pastor tells you. Always pray for the Holy Spirit, in humility, to give you wisdom to reveal the message of the Bible when you read it. Have faith in it. That’s the only way to truly understand the Bible. It’s needless for people to go into arguments and debates because there is no such thing as a “master” of the Bible. People who engage in these, and those who project themselves as authorities of understanding the Bible are committing the sin of Pride. Pray unceasingly, with humility, and Jesus will reveal Himself through the Bible.

There are many contributors. I believe the following are some of the biggest:
1. Our culture and way of thought is far removed from that of the Ancient Near East.
2. We use language very differently and our literary methods/rules differ significantly.
3. Lack of study into contextual background.
4. Finally, the charismatic movement helping the Maveric fallacy to soar.
All these leads people to impose modern way of thought onto the ancient biblical text, thereby creating all sorts of different (and oftend unintended) conclusions from the same text.
Not all of us read the same Bible.
People read into the text things thats not there as they do with other books.
They do that by taking it out of context.
Some things can’t be proven who is the 24 elders in heaven. Because the Bible does not tell us who.

The Bible if very easy to understand as written in most translations. However man will continually attempt to invoke his personal sin nature as he reads so that he can justify his sin. Not everyone else’s but somehow they will try to see that their sin could not be what he is talking about.
Sometimes people don’t want THE Bible, they want THEIR Bible. There’s only one truth
It’s because people cherry pick only certain verses and ignore others
Think of the Bible as a lion. A lion will flourish only in its natural habitat. The Bible has a natural habitat that is partly in secret tradition. That is why the more someone is stuck in the wisdom of the present age the less they accurately interpret the Bible. This is why the early church fathers is such an important starting point for the New Testament and rabbinical traditions that occurred during Old Testament times is important to understand the context of old testament scriptures.
No one can come to the Father on their own volition. A person cannot come to Jesus if he or she has not been drawn by the Father, taught by the Father, heard from the Father, and learned from the Father. God, not the person, plays the most active role in salvation. When someone chooses to believe in Jesus Christ as Savior, he or she does so only in response to the urging of God’s Holy Spirit. Thus no one can believe in Jesus without God’s help.
The Bible is not easy to understand that’s why we need the holy spirit to guide us. God interprets his own word, scripture interprets scripture so if you misinterpret a and A interprets B what happens to B? By necessity be must also be misinterpreted to maintain whatever logic you come up with when you misinterpreted a. I will give you a very good example of this. John 3 Jesus interpretation with Nicodemus. Let’s look at two different interpretations of this conversation and see where it leads. Please stay with me I believe you will find this interesting and it most certainly will answer your question. The conventional interpretation of John 3 understands John 3 is about baptism or conversion and when you are baptized or converted you are also born again, born from above is a better translation also being born of God and being born of the spirit these are all the same thing. People that use this interpretation when they get over to 1st John 5:18, 1st John 3 verse 9 where it is clearly written, whoever is born of God cannot cannot they do not understand this because they know they still sin , so they just Scratch Out God’s words, cannot sin and they write in their own words, and these are the words they write in, whoever is born of God does not practice does not continue to sin. So by misinterpreting John 3 they start corrupting other scriptures. Now this second interpretation and the truth about John 3 it is not about baptism it is not about conversion it is about two different types of births that produce two different types of bodies and Nicodemus being in the wrong body. When you understand you on three is about bodies and which body is necessary to enter the kingdom and the body that is necessary to enter the kingdom comes from above 1st Corinthians 15:35 through 50 born from above, this new spiritual body comes from God, born of God, God is Spirit and according to John 3 if you are born from Spirit you are Spirit and that is why everyone in 1st Corinthians 15 who is being born of God I, being born of the spirit, being born from above are no longer flesh but spirit. And when we receive our spiritual bodies we cannot absolutely cannot sin, 1st John 3 verse 9 tells us why so pay close attention and you will know why those born of God cannot sin. 1st John 3 verse 9 because God gives them a seed and that seed remains in them and they cannot sin oh, it’s all about that seed. Now the seed is not given in 1st John 3 verse 9 this scripture is to be used to interpret other scripture but if you go to a chapter that’s all about being born of God you will find that feed there because that is where and when it is given 1st Corinthians 15 verse 38 there is the seed. Now do you understand how misinterpreting a scripture is like leaven overtime it leavens the whole lump and that is why people find it necessary to add their own words to 1st John 5:18 and 1st John 3 verse 9.
Lol not to sound like a smart aleck, but people is the problem, the Bible shows us that. People who don’t understand proper textual analysis, study methodology, and history who allow their sin nature to dictate what they want Scripture to say versus what it actually says. As Dr. Geisler once said, “The worldview glasses can come off.” We’ve got to examine our worldviews and view the text for what it says.
First, modern translations do a really bad job. Some skew the original languages, then, denominations often add their own bias toward their particular beliefs, and finally, you thrown in personal bias. It’s a true wonder that Believers agree on as much as they do. It’s a sad situation, one which breaks the heart of God, I’m sure, but at the end of the day each of us is to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. When we stand before God, we will answer for ourselves, not a single other person, nor as a group answering for a different group. God alone knows the heart of man and He will know if each of us has sought Him as Proverbs 2:1-11 teaches.
One of the biggest discrepancies I see is some will take a verse literally and others take the same verse figuratively.
Majority of us are stubborn hearted and love to mold scripture to what we like to hear. This is why some are so convicted to some scriptures and refuse to hear other point of view.
Many traditions have been handed down from men who didn’t even believe in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit . Scripture says He will lead us in all truth. If you reject the Holy Ghost how can he lead us in all truth. Also during the times of the falling away or the dark ages many false teachings were formulated and still have a grip on some denominations. We are increasing in knowledge as we approach the end times.
From what I’ve seen, people defer to other men’s doctrines rather than to depend on the authority of scripture. They allow definitions to be changed from biblical definitions to those in accordance with unbiblical doctrines, with an effort to support those doctrines.
Context. The Bible is read out of context, so people get different understandings and believe it to be truth. That is how we get so many different beliefs. People read an 1st century text and then use 21st century context.
That’s why tradition is needed. How the early church interpreted scripture, how the early reformers interpreted them too.
People take the New Testament for granted, and never ask *why* we have it. Then they miss the entire context it was created under.
For three hundred years after Jesus, the Church didn’t have a formal New Testament canon – and ended up in lots of knots of theological debates, much like we have today. Though of course they recognised most individual letters from it as authoritative.
The gathered leaders of the church realised that their goal was all really the same thing – to understand, preserve and teach the Gospel as it was originally taught by Christ and the Apostles. And so they formalised the list of texts that circulated among them which were understood to have this original ‘apostolic authority’.
Now of course this didn’t settle all the arguments, but where it didn’t they had ‘tradition’ to lean on – ie maybe Corinthians mentions Apostles and Prophets, but fourth century Christians would never assume that this meant these as tiers of church leadership, because they had second century texts showing that ‘Apostle’ was always understood to be the original first century leaders/missionaries, and that ‘Prophets’ was always reserved for discussion of Old Testament texts. But if we read the NT and ignore the second and third century, we sometimes introduce ideas and concepts that would have been dead on arrival to the original recipients of the “New Testament”.
Same goes for Baptism – this was the ‘moment’ every Christian until the 16th century was considered to have been saved. And yet today most evangelical traditions struggle to even consider this as a valid biblical concept, due to a general misunderstanding of what Luther meant by sola fide.
We as believers are allowed to have differing views on tertiary things, but we must all be on one Accord with the foundation which is Christ.

That is why the Holy Spirit is so necessary
Partly because theology is contextual, we live in different cultures, have been raised with different social influences and constructs. And as humans we’re naturally prone to be selective and draw conclusions that re-enforce our previously held convictions.
There is, of course, the matter of tares among the wheat. Spiritual warfare is raging against Truth.
Different beliefs will continue because, even with the complete canon of Scripture, we do not fully comprehend it accurately. Even among sincere believers there are faulty presuppositions that drive their interpretation. When the premise errors that which follows is likewise erroneous.
As long as error is tolerated in the name of so-called “orthodoxy” we will fail to discern, “Thus saith the Lord,” and fall short of Phil. 2:2.
It’s because with the death of the apostles many plain and simple truths were lost. The apostles kept the gospel pure, with their deaths false beliefs were brought into the gospel and the world fell into apostasy. The gospel needed to be restored. today Christ’s restored original church is the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
The problem is in the interpretation. Scripture interprets scripture. Scripture does not contradict itself. Sometimes people put meaning in a passage instead of interpreting what the passage is actually saying. Putting meanings where meanings were not, pollutes the passage with culture, belief, religion or even the interpreter’s personality.
One example of this is Abraham’s bosom in Luke 16:22 people from certain group puts meaning into it and says it’s talking about purgatory. Is it?
If you let scripture interpret itself, then the interpretation should not contradict other passagesbin the scripture. If you’ll interpret the implied meaning using the scriptures, you will find tons of scriptural references contradicting the implied meaning(purgatory).

I honestly believe that some passages are interpreted differently because some only understand a relatively superficial understanding of the text. There are SOME who do take bible study deeper. They research and study the context of the text, but also study the history, customs, traditions and laws of the times that are NOT always clearly understood in the narrative and sometimes not included at all. When you study from a text that is that vague or even omits some parts of customs, traditions and even laws of the times, it’s much more understandable why there are different interpretations. What complicates this even more (IMHO) is the fact that 1 denomination may bring their own doctrinal interpretation into pulpit teachings while another denomination might actually denounce that same doctrinal interpretation from behind a very influential pulpit. With both sides having a zeal for serve God, they end up in a war (unintentionally as it might be) of friendly fire among believers. The less tolerate the doctrinal opinion (not in all cases, but some), the more emotionally charged the disagreement where some even end up telling others who are JUST as committed to God that they’re going to hell. Last I checked, the ONLY requirement to go to heaven is to actually accept what Christ has done for us on the cross and the resurrection by faith. HOWEVER, there are also many places in scriptures where new and older believers alike are absolutely encouraged to test the scripture in order to guard against false doctrines. This provides yet another complication to what can be an already complicated interpretation. This is JMHO, but it seems this has been my experience. I’ve attended MANY different services over the years since being in the military, a chaplain of my personal faith (protestant) was not always available so I attended mass instead. I found that many in those pews are just as dedicated to God as I am, though I do NOT agree with some of their doctrines and disagree with some of them very passionately. I hope this helps.
Also, not everyone who approaches the scriptures does so with a uniform background or education level. There is no “level playing” field when it comes to background and education level, HOWEVER, the unity of the HS does help resolve this issue, but doesn’t stop questions from coming. I don’t think questions are dangerous, quite the opposite and I even take slack for asking the tough questions that many believers say I’m a “rebel, get back in line”.

one of the reasons is because the reformers didn’t hold to the great commission. They excluded the Jews from the gospel. Believers were commanded to take the gospel to the Jews first, beginning with Jerusalem, Judea and then Samaria. After the rapture, the gospel will emanate again from Jerusalem and then spread throughout the earth.
