The General Executive Committee elected in 1986 at the General Assembly.
Were they the leaders of the new Church of God finally free of the old legalism of the past?

Solid team.
I knew all of them. All great men
E C Thomas was the outgoing General Overseer.
E.C. Thomas, that’s right. Couldn’t think of who it was.
Cecil Knight was my wife’s pastor in Birmingham when she was growing up.
I’d like to share some pleasant experiences I’ve had with each of the men in the photo. I was invited to a meal with some other ministers and Raymond Crowley (who was the General Overseer at the time) sat at one end of the table. Since I was seated to the right of him, I jokingly asked Bro. Crowley if I could be his right-hand-man? He smiled really big and said, “Yes!” Ha! When I was attending Lee College and sitting in the auditorium for a chapel service, there was one vacant seat to my right, by the isle. A man walked up, leaned over to me, and asked if it would be alright if he sat there? To my surprise, it was Ray H. Hughes (the President of Lee College at the time)! I’ll let you guess what my answer was! Ha! Cecil B. Knight was the evening speaker at the first Church of God camp meeting I attended. It was in Kansas, and I was tremendously blessed by Bro. Knight’s ministry! Years later, I had the opportunity to serve in the Missionary Evangelism program, conducting revivals in mission states. Bro. Knight was the General Evangelism Director I worked with one of the years I served. Many years ago when my wife and I first heard R. Lamar Vest preach at an Oklahoma camp meeting, we knew that he was headed toward higher positions of leadership in the Church of God — which has certainly come to pass! He was the State Youth and Christian Education Director of Oklahoma at the time. My wife and I first met Johnny Nichols when we were evangelizing in Iowa many years ago. He was the evening speaker at the Iowa State Camp Meeting. We appreciated his ministry and enjoyed the personal fellowship we had with him at the camp meeting and have been blessed to be with him at other times since then!
All but Ray Hughes preached at Servicemen meetings in Europe
We got to know them personally
