The Creator and His Creation

I have felt this urgency in my walk with God of late to learn and embrace all I can about my Creator and His creation. I have revisited and reread the first 3 chapters of Genesis, Psalms 8, Psalms 24, and Psalms 139, as well as Job, Chapters 38 & 39.

I have been sobered and made introspective by the great verses of Hebrews 1: 10-12, “And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thy hands. They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they shall all wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shall thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.”

A great Christian once said, “The closer one gets to the creation, the closer one gets to the Creator.” When I was a boy, television was black and white, limited to three stations, all of which went off at midnight. Cell phones, computers, Ipads, and video and the cyber world did not exist.

My siblings and I lived outside in the daytime, like most kids in those days, during all four seasons of the year. Neighborhood baseball, football, and basketball, along with hiking, exploring, fishing, and swimming in the creeks, occupied our adolescent years. Sometimes we just got down in the grass under a shade tree and talked. We were close to the earth, and perhaps we didn’t realize we were close to the Creator of the earth, for, in that very real world, we were forming values. It wasn’t artificial cyber-spawned entertainment, but rather physical and social interaction with fellow creatures where the rewards and consequences of life could be realized.

Now I am very aware that being close to nature and the creation doesn’t redeem or save us. According to Romans 1:25, it is a grievous sin to worship the creature or created things more than the Creator. This has become one of the great sins of this age, in that mankind lives for itself to please itself and God is either ignored or totally disbelieved. Our world now caters to “the lusts of the eyes, the lusts of the flesh and the pride of life,” the very same three things the Apostle John said, “is not of the Father, but of the world.”(I John 2:16).  And then John succinctly tells us how it will all end in the very next verse, for he says, “And the world will pass away and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides forever.”

Do you really think a righteous, holy God, who watched His only begotten Son butchered on Calvary to redeem mankind, is going to let this debauchery and open rebellion against all that is righteous and pure found in the redemption provided for by Jesus Himself, go on indefinitely? No, a thousand times no!!
God is, and has been, longsuffering, but as the great poet Longfellow once said, “Though the wheels of God grind slow….they grind exceedingly sure.”

Finally, remember this….the Creator has power over His creation. In Jeremiah Chapter 18, the prophet went down to the potter’s house and saw the potter crush and cast aside a “marred” vessel he himself had made. God then asked Jeremiah, “Cannot I do as this potter has done?” In other words, does not the Creator have power over His creation?

Consider these verses, then examine your heart and your relationship to your Creator for the time of reckoning is swiftly approaching. Only your walk with God and a life pleasing Him as a vessel He has made matters.

“Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” Genesis 18:25

“Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shall say, I have no pleasure in them;” Ecclesiastes 12:1

“Thus saith the Lord, that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee, fear not….” Isaiah 44:2

“Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded.” James 4:8

According to II Peter 3:13, Almighty God, the Creator of all things, is about to create “new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.” Listen, folks, God’s word is absolutely true, and He, Creator God, will have the final word over all of this. Do not despair. He will fulfill His word.
