FINDING PURGATORY IN THE BIBLE
By Emmanuel Jacobo
May 12, 2020
Where is Purgatory in the Bible?
(Comprehensive Series of Events to find where Purgatory is).
This is a task like a detective probing potential evidences, criminal scenes and potential criminals to solve a crime ala English Sherlock Holmes or Columbo of the former American detective television series “Columbo”. The similarities with this task is the detective work of finding the evidences and so for me, inside the jungle of 31,000 verses (8,000 in New Testament) in the Bible.
Note: Purgatory word is not in the vocabulary yet when the OT and NT Bible books were written. However, the realities are there in many passages in the New Testament. This is quite a challenging task knowing that the Purgatory word is not mentioned anywhere in the Bible but with series of events in passages, that state or realm can be deciphered, found and identified.
A. Proof that Prison, Paradise, and Bosom of Abraham is one and the same place.
I. Luke 16:19-31 – Lazarus is in the Bosom of Abraham (good side of Sheol/Hades where the Old Testament Prophets who are captives are waiting)
II. Before dying in Luke 23:43 – Jesus promised to meet the Good Thief in Paradise.
III. At death, Jesus in 1 Peter 3:18-20 and 1 Peter 4:6,
Peter described Jesus
going to “Prison” to: 1. Preach to Unrighteous Dead; 2. Pickup the OT prophets to resurrect with him in Matthew 27:52-53 and went to heaven with him in Ephesians 4:8-10. and 3. Jesus will meet the Good Thief in Paradise/Bosom of Abraham/Prison.
Based on the description above, This meeting place between Jesus and the Good Thief is Paradise, where he pickup the OT prophets (Abraham was there and his OT gang) called Bosom of Abraham where Lazarus was. This is also called Prison by Peter.
Conclusion: Paradise, Bosom of Abraham and Prison is the same one place.
B. Next: I will prove that “Prison” is the Purgatory after Jesus Death, Resurrection and Ascension.
Three Specific Resume to qualify for Eternal Life with sample passages as proofs:
I. PERFECTION
Matthew 5:48; Matthew 19:21,
II. HOLINESS
In Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 1:15-16; Liviticus 19:1-2
III. PURITY
Revelation 21:27; Revelation 19:8, Ephesians 5:3,
Since no one can accomplish that requirements except maybe 1 in a million people, God designed something for us so we can attain the required hurdles so many will have chance, how?
God designed a waiting place or state or process (By the way. Non-Catholic Christians call this place or state “Sleeping state”) as a “ Cleansing, Purification, Perfection or Holiness Process before entering Eternal Glory in Heaven.
The Non-Catholic Christians sleep there until Jesus 2nd Coming. While the Catholics have 2 scenarios 1. Some will wait all the way to Jesus 2nd coming (just like the Non-Catholic Christians). 2. The rest can fulfill or serve their short prison sentence (the process of Perfection) after which when perfected they can be freed for heaven.
3 passages as proofs of Purgatory among others:
Matthew 5:25-26,
25 Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison; 26 truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny.
in this passage, the message is a call to be righteous as can be because at death if not holy and perfect yet one shall be sent to prison to commute a sentence to pay for all his/her transgressions. This is the purification process in Purgatory for “Perfection” required in heaven.
1 Corinthians 3:13-15,
13 the work of each builder will become visible, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each has done. 14 If what has been built on the foundation survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If the work is burned up, the builder will suffer loss; the builder will be saved, but only as through fire.
In this passage, the builder’s work will be tested for “Perfection”. If the work is already “Perfect” the reward is straight to Heaven. If not yet perfect, the builder will be sent to Purgatory for purification process to be “Perfected” as required in Heaven.
In 1 Thessalonians 4:14-16,
14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have FALLEN ASLEEP. 15 For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have FALLEN ASLEEP. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the DEAD in Christ will rise first;
I highlighted with capital letters Fallen Asleep (2x) and Dead and my question is – where do you think these Fallen Asleep and Dead souls are waiting for Jesus 2nd Coming? –
I think Peter called that waiting place “Prison” and we Catholics call that state “Purgatory”.
Other Passages:
Matthew 5:48; Hebrew 1:3; Hebrew 12:14; Hebrews 12:22-23; Matthew 19:21/Mark 10:21/Luke 18:22; 2 Corinthians 7:1; Matthew 7:13-14; 1 Peter 1:6-7; Revelation 21:27; 2 Timothy 1:9; Ephesians 5:3; Philippians 2:14-16;
Romans 12:1; 1 Corinthians 3:13-15, Matthew 5:21-26 and Matthew 12:32-36 and Matthew 18:34-35 and Luke 12:59 and 2 Timothy 1:16-18 and Hebrews 12:29 and 1 Peter 1:7 and 1 Peter 15:29-30 1 Peter 3:18-20 and 1 Peter 4:6.
Since Jesus described a place as the Bosom of Abraham (Abode of the just) and Peter mentioned Prison; while Old Testament people called that place Sheol which Paul probably knew where the Dead Souls are Fallen Asleep, it made sense that the same place or state is being populated by both the “Saved” Unrighteous at the Bosom of Abraham and also the Wicked at the place of torment with the rich man on the other side.
I think that the Evangelical Christians who are in “deep sleep” waiting for Jesus’ 2nd Coming for Final Judgement is in the same place as the “Prison” we call “Purgatory”.
God Bless!
Naw fam, this has been debunked for centuries. For it to keep coming back like this is just confusing. Even thinking of it logically doesn’t nake sense. This is getting tiresome.
There are no second chances after death, there is no in between
Purgatory no such place.
Enoch and Elijah went straight to heaven.
They debunked the myth of purgatory
Only In the Catholic Bible.
This has been discussed and posted before and its getting tiresome. You can believe what you want to believe.
Are we still in this again? ??♀️??♀️??♀️ Thank the Lord that my eyes were opened. I came out of the catholic “faith” and this is utter nonsense. This is something they tell you just so you feel a little better about yourself if you died without being saved. We all know there’s two places. Heaven and Hell and that’s it. You are either hot or cold, not lukewarm.
Please explain indulgences
Being in law enforcement as an investigator myself, I highly doubt those skills of yours would pass in the investigative community. You speculate too much and add your own biased assumptions and put them as facts to a case. If in the unlikely event that you do pass, you’ll probably implicate people for crimes they didnt do for the lousy research you do. You’re the type who will most likely put innocent people in jail and make sure they rot there even if new evidence will say otherwise.
What a sad paradise you believe in!
We’ve already discussed this one, it’s RCC paganism like so much else, I won’t participate further.
You have repeated this so often you actually believe it yourself. You will NEVER achieve perfection. This has all the trappings of the deception that is inherent in RELIGION.
QURAN 17:57. Muslims who STRIVE for perfection. They HOPE for the mercy of Allah and they FEAR his punishment.
Whereas the Bible tells us that when we REPENT we become SANCTIFIED when we are filled with the HOLY SPIRIT.
In this ONGOING PROCESS of sanctification, we have the help of the Holy Spirit to show the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT….Galatians 5:22,23.
Purgatory is purely money Making doctrine for RC.
There’s no such thing as purgatory. What we Christians should worry about, is striving to become Sons of God. So we won’t go bargaining our eternal destination in a place that has never been mentioned in the Holy Book!
Inventions. Actually its a long long ago.practice of Roman Catholic. They used it before in making money since when a soul.is in purgatory, they need a prayer to transfer to heaven. What happen? Pay for a special or ordinary mass. Money right? Dont investigate. Its a old practice??
There is mo purgatory in the Bible. That’s why it can’t be found
You will all note from the conclusion of this meme, the comment,”I think…”
It would appear that Emmanuel is out on his own with his “thinking” on this matter.
Not much sign of support or agreement from any source.
I wonder why?
I’m with you there is plenty of proof in the Bible, the saints/mystics has revelations about it, the early fathers wrote about it. I’ve been denying it for as long as I can remember until I decided to dig deeper with an open/fair study of all possibilities and I just couldn’t deny it anymore, it’s been a year now since I accepted it.
So you are suggesting that purgatory of the non cannon apocrypha is sheol of the OT and Abrahams bosom in the NT?
The first problem i saw was that you said “maybe one in a million people can achieve these things”.
No, 0 in a billion people could achieve this, thats why Jesus came. If we could do this stuff ourself He wouldnt have needed to come. Now since he has come we have 2 destinations either Heaven or Hell. Either Christ covers your sins or He doesnt. Sure maybe when we die we fall asleep until the first resurrection or maybe we go straight to Heaven, who knows? There is no trial/waiting room for a Christian because you know youre saved, no amount of non prayer or non tithing will send you to Hell. And if you arent saved no amount of prayer or tithing will get you to Heaven.
Did Jesus cover your sins or not?
The red flag with MANY Catholic doctrines and traditions is how many scriptural gymnastics they have to through to try and prove them. How often they take verses from multiple locations and then throw them together to create a doctrine or support a tradition. God is NOT the author of confusion! That is why Catholics had to make a whole website to help fellow Catholics try to explain their beliefs and traditions. These beliefs and traditions are often very confusing and not clearly seen in scripture.
Purgatory doesn’t exist it is not found in the pages of scripture only in the Papal Doctrines of the Antichrists church.
From my understanding, your purgatory is not a pleasant place in any way but something close to hell. That’s very different from Abraham’s bossom where Lazarus was.
THE MEANING OF JESUS’ ATONEMENT FOR MANKIND’S SINS BY HIS BLOOD ON THE CROSS
By: Emmanuel Jacobo
May 14, 2020
Many Christians brethren wrongly believed that only accepting Jesus as Savior and believing in him is deemed sufficient to earn the ticket to Eternal Life even if no righteousness is accomplished by anyone and some believed even to go straight to heaven at death with that hope in mind.
Jesus death and blood on the cross atoned our entire mankind’s transgressions (Sins) and that was Jesus goal in coming to earth inorder to redeem us humans to regain the favor and Eternal Relationship with God lost by the fall of Adam and Eve.
With that fall, Adam and Eve’s original “Holiness, Perfection and Purity” was lost hence mankind lost the right for us children of God to inhabit Paradise and the outright Eternal Destiny in Heaven.
Jesus’ redemption of Humanity’s Sins (Adam and Eve’s and the subsequent mankind’s past and future sins) on the cross by his blood regained all those previous original attributes and Rights of a Legitimate Children therefore everyone who is “Worthy to be considered Child of God” is entitled as “Heir” to the very Great Possessions of Jesus and/or God which is Eternal Life in glory with them in Final Heaven at the End Time.
How can we (us humans) obtain that “Sonship Right” as Heir as Child of God? – By not only believing in Jesus but also heeding all his teachings and commands laid out all over the New Testament.
Christians must accept Jesus as their Savior by striving to be Holy, Pure, and Perfect the very criteria that Jesus and the New Testament passages demanded for anyone to gain that right to be “Child of God” and “Heir” of His Kingdom.
A very compelling of this Truth is in
1 John Chapter 3 narrative:
1 John Chapter 3
1 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God’s children now; it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 And every one who thus hopes in him PURIFIES himself as he is PURE.
4 Every one who commits sin is guilty of lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that he appeared to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 6 No one who abides in him sins; no one who sins has either seen him or known him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who does right is righteous, as he is righteous. 8 He who commits sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one born of God commits sin; for God’s[a] nature abides in him, and he cannot sin because he is[b] born of God. 10 By this it may be seen who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not DO RIGHT is not of God, nor he who does not love his brother.
Even Apostle Paul, the very hero whom some Christian traditions derived the “Faith Alone through Grace Alone” (Sola Fide) doctrine did not mean what they perceived by uttering this passage in Hebrews 12:14:
14 “Strive for peace with all men, and for the HOLINESS without which no one will see the Lord.” This passage is a testament that Paul with all his preachings in his many epistles (letters) do not promote Sola Fide doctrine in anyway shape or form and definitely not intended to supersede or override all the Righteousness, Holiness, Purity, and Perfection required by Jesus in many many passages and as written in the New Testament texts.
Anyone who can endure to the end and accomplished that challenge above can attain the Right to be “Child of God” therefore at death Jesus will receive him/her straight to his Home in the glory of Heaven.
Anyone who fall short will have to earn that hurdle, how? We Catholics call that “Perfection” requirement the Purification in Purgatory!
I hope and pray that this helps.
God Bless!
Would love to see Emmanuel Jacobo debate Dr. white on this. For now his debate with Sungenis will have to do.

The ideas and practices stemming from belief in purgatory are unscriptural. It is completely unscriptural to imagine that if we light candles or pay money or do certain works it will do anything for loved ones who have gone before.
The idea that there could be a waiting place such as Abraham’s bosom or sleeping while awaiting the resurrection are more believable based on texts.
Both death and hell are cast into the lake of fire after the milleniel reign of Christ. Could there be two separate levels of eternity without Christ? One for those who are ignorant of the message of truth and one for those who reject it entirely though they hear and those who make spiritual lies?
Could Sheol (the grave) be a sort of holding tank? Jesus warned about hell more than talking about heaven. He also mentioned a place called Abraham’s bosom. These are valid questions and should be answered as close to scripture as we can get without leaving and experiencing afterlife and returning.
When Lazarus died, Jesus said that he was asleep. When he revived, he was not yet resurrected into a glorified body. He grew old and died again.
THE ORIGIN OF PURGATORY
There was no mention of Purgatory during the first two centuries of the church. However, when Roman Emperor Theodosius (379-395) decreed that Christianity was to be the official religion of the empire, thousands of pagans flooded into the Church and brought their pagan beliefs and traditions with them. One of those ancient pagan beliefs was a place of purification where souls went to make satisfaction for their sins.
The concept became much more widespread around 600 A.D. due to the fanaticism of Pope Gregory the Great. He developed the doctrine through visions and revelations of a Purgatorial fire. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia (CE), Pope Gregory said Catholics “will expiate their faults by purgatorial flames,” and “the pain [is] more intolerable than any one can suffer in this life.” Centuries later, at the Council of Florence (1431), it was pronounced an infallible dogma. It was later reaffirmed by the Council of Trent (1564).

THE BIBLICAL REBUKE OF PURGATORY
God’s Word leaves absolutely no possibility for sin to be purged away by anything other than the blood of Jesus Christ. The beloved apostle John penned these words with irrefutable clarity. He wrote, “The blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin” and “all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:7,9). John did not say “some” sins or “most” sins, but all sin! This soundly rebukes the need for a sin-purging fire. God’s Word also declares, “All things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Heb. 9:22). When Jesus “made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Heb. 1:3). Those who desire to have their sins purged need to trust a person, not a place. The blood of Christ is the only cleansing agent for sin! Those who come to the cross of Christ must come with empty hands of faith, bringing nothing but their sins.
Every blood-bought believer is instantly present with their Redeemer at the moment of death. To be “absent from the body” is to be “at home with the Lord” (2 Cor. 5:6-8). This good news was affirmed by the Lord Jesus with the promise He gave to the repentant thief at Calvary. He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43). This habitual sinner did not need a fire to purge his sins.

THE DECEPTION OF PURGATORY
Purgatory comes from the Latin word “purgare,” which means to make clean or to purify. The Catholic Encyclopedia defines purgatory as “a place or condition of temporal punishment for those who, departing this life in God’s grace, are not entirely free from venial faults, or have not fully paid the satisfaction due to their transgressions.” They must be purified of these “venial” sins before they can be allowed into heaven. Here we see Catholicism perpetuating the seductive lie of Satan by declaring “you will not surely die” when you commit venial sins (Gen. 3:4). The Council of Trent dares to declare that “God does not always remit the whole punishment due to sin together with the guilt. God requires satisfaction and will punish sin…The sinner, failing to do penance in this life, may be punished in another world, and so not be cast off eternally from God.” (Session 15, Can. XI). Those Catholic Bishops had the audacity to declare that the suffering and death of God’s perfect man and man’s perfect substitute was not sufficient to satisfy divine justice for sin.

Lying about scripture does not create purgatory.
My advice.
1. Get born again
2. Start reading the Bible.
3.try to fit other books to the Bible and not the other way around
4. please get born again tonight.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
We have no need for purgatory because who and what Jesus did is sufficient!
Purgatory is not in the scriptures but its found in the apocryphal books which are added to the catholic bible
God’s fire is spiritual not physical fire. God uses physical fire in the Bible to show us something spiritual. The Lake of Fire is spiritual. No purgatory..
This post is made with a lot of effort. But there are too many assumptions and man-made complexities. Jesus made salvation simple, too simple that it is called the Scandal of Grace or the Amazing Grace. Man tries to complicate what God has established and finished on the Cross because of his logic. Logic is the enemy of faith. No, God says we cannot attain our own salvation or help others attain it (we can only preach), how much more the dead. It is the Holy Spirit who sanctifies us. When we face God, He remembers our sins no more because He sees Jesus’ righteousness instead of ours. Scripture tells us to “put on” Christ and our new man in Him like a garment, and do away with the old. GAL 3:27, Eph 4:22 and 24, 1Cor 15:53-54, Romans 13: 12 and 14.
When we put on Jesus, we become white as snow. No need or basis for purgatory.
John 1:29 “The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
When you read that verse in context, notice how the Lord Jesus is referred to. Does it say the lamb of God that takes only “some or many” of the sin of the world? No, it clearly says the sin, meaning all, nothing less.
