I am excited about going to church this evening. In fact, I am excited about whenever I go to a church service when the Holy Ghost is moving. I know many of you do not go to any local church in your area because the Pentecostal churches in your area have went modern and there is very little, if any, Holy Ghost in their services. I suggest to you holiness preachers to start an independent CoG in your community and allow the Holy Ghost to have His way.

better still holiness preachers, attend a church near you and take the Holy Spirit along with you and introduce Him to the people.
I’ll have you know the Holy Spirit is already there and it’s the height of arrogance to think your the only ones that have it! I like you leaving as suggested it means won’t have to contend with certain people praying against the pastor because they don’t like the service I have news it’s NOT ABOUT YOU.
I am getting tired of the backstabbing on here I was raised you don’t publicly criticize other ministers because you have belly ache, well I can’t stand southern gospel and redbacks and I have never had a problem with God showing up and moving but I sure did years ago when the old style was prevalent. Holy Spirit is here could it be bitterness not letting him be felt? Fair question because you can see it all over.
I had a member tell me that we need to have church like we did 30 years ago when the holy spirit was so thick it was like a smoke or haze. Yet, the church he is talking about closed its doors because they wouldn’t pay their bills. So full of the Holy Ghost they can’t pay their tithes? Hmmmmm.
The fact is my brethren that there are many devout Christian people who simply stay home. They no longer attend a local Pentecostal church. A good number of them watch JS’s tv programs and send their tithes and offerings to his church. They say they enjoy JS’s music. Many have shared their story of how their local Pentecostal church has gone modern and they refuse to support it. Yes, there are a few CoG that have maintained their standards, but they are becoming fewer and fewer in USA.
Jackson Vaughn Plant, I do understand your posts. This is an open forum, which can involve both positive and negative statements as long as our basis is love. Some people like the old and others like the new. But that difference should never cause division here. Rather, it should concern us and cause us to be concerned enough to pray openly about it.

What does ‘gone modern’ mean? Does it mean having modern choruses instead of old hymns? Does it mean women having shoulder length hair? Does it mean letting men in the women’s restroom and conducting falsely so called ‘gay marriages’?
I was on a road trip over the weekend and I stopped by a reasonably well known church that I might label as in the ‘prophetic movement’. I don’t think they had 300 people there, but it was a second service. They had people painting during the ‘worship service’ (when they were singing.) This church has a school of ministry and I hear they have a lot of different music groups, so I don’t know if they rotate them out on Sunday morning.
But neither my wife nor myself cared that much for the music. I think the songs were original songs, but it really did look like a rock concert. I couldn’t hear the lyrics that well because the music was turned up so load. Sometimes, they’d have the lyrics up on a screen. It was something about the Lion busting forth on the scene or something like that, and then something about ‘dance with you’ and in the next part of the song ‘dance to you.’ Anyway, the words weren’t all that deep, I thought. And we repeated it over and over and over. If we are going to repeat something that much, I’d kind of like it to be something a bit heavier.
The songs seemed more suitable to be something to listen to on a CD or MP3 in the car rather than sung together, IMO. I like the modern stuff, too, but before that first song was over, I told myself I was ready for an old hymn. I think I’d get more out of it.
I don’t see in the Bible where we are commanded to have congregational singing. I’m not against it. Jesus probably did that with the disciples after the Lord’s Supper. The current Jewish tradition is to sing certain Psalms in unison (as opposed to turn-taking solos or antiphonally.) ‘Speaking to yourselves in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs’ could refer to turn-taking solos. I Corinthians 14:26 seems to be turn-taking solos.
So I am okay with solos. In some of the Charismatic and ‘prophetic movement’ or ‘signs and wonders’ type churches, the song leader will go on and on playing with the other musicians while he makes up a song and sings it. Sometimes everyone else makes up their own song. From I Corinthians 14, it seems the best way to do it would be to apply those principles and let those who want to sing take turns doing so while others listen so they can be edified. And the song leader shouldn’t hog all the time, especially if he’s just going to repeat the same three notes on the guitar and say five words over and over again for 10 minutes. If we are going to sing congregationally, let’s do that. If we are going to do solos, let’s take turns and let everyone else listen. Let’s not do solos at the same time, and let’s share. Whoever sings should sing something edifying to others, not just have private ‘worship’ time one can have at home in front of the crowd.
I like to sing old hymns congregationally. I like the newer choruses. I think it is fine if a church has modern-sounding music. But we need to hear the words. We are supposed to be singing praises, not just listening to guitar and drums. I am not an artist, so maybe I lack the appreciation for it. But I don’t get the paintings during church. Is the painting going to be understood and edify others without an interpretation? It’s cool and artsy and gives the artists an outlet, but I don’t see really how it fits into the Biblical model for church meetings.
Some of the newer choruses are better than the country-gospel hymns. I’ve heard new choruses with the guitar, drums, etc., that are right out of the Bible, full of deep spiritual truth. They are heavier than “I’ll fly away.” But some of those hymns that stood the test of time are good, too. And of course, there are ‘light’ modern choruses as well.
I don’t see any reason to think that going to a church where it looks like Hee-Haw on stereoids, sped up to 2x normal speed is more pleasing to God than more modern music styles.
I agree nothing like the presence of the Holy Ghost
While at our winter prayer conference this past January my heart and soul were so wonderfully blessed as the presence and power and glory of the Holy Ghost anointed the singing ! Especially the the church from Newburgh ! I don’t know but I believe the glory of the lord so fell on us I am sure more than any time I can remember ! There are some soldiers still calling on God for America to be turned on her face with a move of God that will shake this nation to their knees ! Yes we still preach holiness and live holy , and we have decided that if it takes our death so be it but st least when we expire piled up on an old fashion altar crying to God for a real move of his presence oh let it fall now ! I have a feeling that God is talking to others , and I believe we will see this wonderful pastor at our Newburgh church see a genuine move of God ! I know many others are really crying out to God now ! I have never been more encouraged by what I see God doing , please pray for us as we call on God for a real move of God ! Amen

They call the old songs “Gospel Music” for good reason. The gospel is in the lyrics. These “kum-ba-ya” or “7-11” songs have not such thing. It may appeal to the flesh, but the SPIRIT is not in it, with few exceptions of course.
So many critics on here it’s sad. The time you are complaining you could be sharing the gospel or does that go against the “old time religion ” too?
Okay, so I have a question. What is a service like, “when the HOLY SPIRIT shows up”? I hear the expression. Is it okay to ask for an explanation?
Holy Spirit is always there people need time to be able to feel him there.

Now I’m sure you men recognize this text, and that it is the voice of the SAVIOR when HE was among us. How does what the MASTER said, compare with your assessment of a service where the “HOLY SPIRIT” moves, or is present, or manifested?
It fits perfectly, because I am talking about among the believers not the lost. Holy Spirit does convict us to repent and then we worship God as the word tells us to do. The comforter also encourages us, empowers us strengthens us as was worship in the spirit. There is no conflict or confusion between the two.
