Prosperity gospel is popular because people nowadays wanted to be entertained (2 Timothy 4:3) rather than be equipped for the work of the Lord (2 Timothy 3:16-17). We must not hesitate to speak the truth to people whether it encourages them, or corrects them. We must understand that the task of a preacher is both afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. Apostle Paul declares, “For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27 ESV). As we mature in the Lord we must not believe every spirit but we should learn to test the spirits whether it is from the Lord (1 John 4:1). We can only test every spirit through the Spirit of truth that is in us, and the word of truth that we meditate day and night (1 John 4:6; John 17:17; Josh 1:8). There are false prophets out there, and there are false converts as well. One mark of a true believer is he listens to the voice of the shepherd, not the wolves ( John 10:26-27).
