Why are the Church of God pulling away from preaching? Instead now it is more like teaching which is fine but most Churches in this part like ND don’t have Sunday night services and it was in those services the Holy Ghost would move in a mighty way. I haven’t even heard of revivals being here anymore. It’s like if there don’t have enough people showing up we won’t have church. It’s sad cause the Lord’s coming is so close and we aren’t doing anything to get people saved. Won’t we be held accountable for it? Everyone says you gotta change with the times I don’t believe that. God hasn’t changed the Bible hasn’t changed but the churches are changing and I don’t think it is for the good. Just wondering why the church is changing.

There are still many churches having revivals but they only go from Sun. thru Wed. night. I agree that we need to have more. People have fallen out of love with the move of God….not everyone of course.

Excellent post and good point. Preaching is becoming a thing of the past the moving of the Holy Ghost is few and far between and there’s isn’t many revivals anywhere

Because you preach the gospel (saving grace, to the lost).
Then you teach the tenants of that faith to the converts, believers, and saints.Revival we need, yes.
But as a minister and pastor what I see is that most people (enjoying) the move of the Spirit are those not experiencing Him personally at home.

There are three Greek words generally translated ‘preach’ in the New Testament. There are exceptions. The KJV Acts 20 uses the word ‘preach’ from which we get ‘dialogue’.
Usually,in the New Testament the word ‘preach’ in the Bible refers to proclaiming the Gospel, and typically it is used of evangelism, proclaiming the Gospel to those who haven’t believed it yet.
A lot of Pentecostals use the word ‘preach’ to refer to a kind of loud excited style of speaking, and ‘teach’ to refer to a calmer style of speaking. But that isn’t a distinction we can get from the Bible.
When Paul says that God has chosen the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe, he is writing about the fact that people get saved when they heard the Gospel proclaimed and then believe it. He is not saying that Christians can be saved in the end if they go hear someone talk loud behind a pulpit every week for the rest of their lives.
In Pentecostal churches, and also some Baptist churches and various other types, there is a tradition of the ‘preacher’ preaching in a loud, fast, sometimes nearly hyperventilating tone of voice. He is excited and has a certain rhythm to his speech. There are variations on this. One type of ‘preaching’ has extra syllables thrown in. “And UH, let me tell yUH tonight uh…..”
The Bible doesn’t teach that we have to use that type of speech. If someone can teach or exhort well doing that, that’s okay I guess. But we should realize just how weird it is to either the unchurched or people who grew up in different kinds of churches. The way some preachers talk is just so unnatural that it may be a distraction from what they are trying to say.

We should also note that the Bible doesn’t give a lot of details on what to do in church beyond one long chapter in I Corinthians. This chapter doesn’t even mention pastors, or elders for that matter. It does mention prophets speaking and also that ‘ye may all prophesy.’ In this chapter Paul deals with meetings where ‘every one of you’ has a psalm, doctrine, tongue, revelation, or interpetation. The ‘commandments of the Lord’ he gives for church meetings assume a meeting inwhich many believers use their gifts.
A lot of us have the way we have always done church so engrained in us that we assume that Paul is saying to add these things to the traditional Protestant pulpit-pew-sermon type church meeting. And a lot of Christians just basically ignore the passage or don’t study I Corinthians 14 much. Or it doesn’t occur to them that we should be looking to the Bible for what to do in church. Tradition can be a powerful thing.

I grew up in the Church of God and didn’t leave my home church until I got married. I remember long revivals and long church services. I am noe 70 and I thank God every day for my legacy of the church. Got married and had three children who were all raised in the church. My husband was a minister of Music and we worked together for 47 years until hr died. I live in Arkansas and am a member of the Assembly of God. It is a very good church,, and there have been lots of prayers answered. We had a wonderful revival last year. Our pastor is a man of God. We will pray for North Dakota.
