I would like to share this idea to you, ’cause…

I would like to share this idea to you, ’cause a lot of people have been asking for this confusing question causing them to change their faith.

“If there is only one God, is Jesus a man or a God? If Jesus is God why would he pray to God considering the fact that there is only one true God?”

Before we start, I would like to define first what is Theism, Theism is a worldview or a belief that there is a supreme being or God who created everything. A person who believes in God is called Theist, while a person who do not believe or lack of belief in God is called Atheist. There are two types of theist, the monotheist, a theist that believes in one god and polytheist is a person who believes in many gods. Note, that Trinitarians (A theist that believes in the doctrine of the trinity) do not believe in many gods, but one Being-God shared by three Persons, don’t be confused by the person and being, being is what makes something WHAT they are while person is what makes something WHO they are.

Let’s go back to the question,
“If there is only one God, is Jesus a man or a God who became a man? If Jesus is God why would he pray to God considering the fact that there is only one true God?”

Who is Jesus?
The name of Jesus is derived from the Hebrew word Yeshua, which means “to deliver” or “to rescue”. According to the bible scholars, there are more than 300 prophecies in the old testament regarding to the birth of the Messiah or the Savior which is Jesus. And one of the most famous prophecy is written in the Isaiah 7:14

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel”

Immanuel is derived from the Hebrew word meaning “God is with us”

In the old testament, the messiah(Jesus) is the “plan” of God who will be with us to deliver us or to save us from our sins and suffering.

In John 1:1 it is written
In the beginning was the “word”, and the “word” was with God, and the “word” WAS GOD.
John 1:14
And the word became human and dwelt among us.
the “word” came from the greek word “logos” which means plan.
if we substitute the “word” for plan.
In the beginning was the “plan”, and the “plan” was with God, and the “plan” was God.
and the “plan (who is God)” became Human and dwelt among us.

There is only one God, why would Jesus pray to God? is He praying to Himself?

No, 1 Corinthians 8:6

But for us,
There is one God, the Father,
by whom all things were created,
and for whom we live.
And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ,
through whom all things were created,
and through whom we live.

“It does not state that Jesus is God”

well this verse might help you,
Philippians 2:5-8 NLT
“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Though he WAS GOD
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to. Instead,
he gave up his divine privileges
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.”

There is only one God in three person, God the father, who is the creator of all things, God the Son through Him all things are created, He became human to demonstrate His love for us and to save us from our sins. And the Holy Spirit, who guide us.
They are united as One-being God. One-being in Three persons, again Being is what makes someone what they are, and person is what makes someone who they are. Jesus is praying to the Father God who is in Heaven, but they are united as one just as He stated in John 10:30 “I and the father are one”.

In conclusion
Jesus is God, the son of God, who became a perfect Human for us to be saved from our sins. Although He is God, he also pray to God to give us example how we should live as a child of God.
“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.” Ephesians 5:1
